A brilliant set of musicians bringing full on energy and excitement to the wonders of jazz.
Born into a family of musicians, Josh has been surrounded by music for his entire life. He first picked up the saxophone aged 9 and what started as a hobby has turned into a career.
Currently based in the Netherlands, he is studying for is masters degree in jazz with Ben Van Gelder and Jasper Blom and Dick Oatts at the prestigious Conservatorium Van Amsterdam.
He has most recently completed a tour with his Quartet as part of the Jazz Promotion Networks Emerging Talent Scheme which saw him performing at venues across the UK including a date at Kings Place in London. The band will be touring again in July, playing new compositions inspired by Josh’s time in Amsterdam.
Before moving abroad Josh was an active member of the UK jazz scene, specifically in Birmingham where he studied for his bachelors degree under the tutelage of Mike Williams. Whilst there he had the opportunity to perform in concerts with artists such as Dave Holland, Nate Smith, George Colligan and John Riley as well as with bands such as Syd Lawrence Orchestra, MYJO, NYJO and Birmingham Jazz Orchestra.
He was a member of the award winning Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra (MYJO) for over 3 years, with whom he had the opportunity to perform with across the Midlands and further afield with guests including Bobby Shew and Clair Teal, In 2016 he appeared live on BBC 2 with MYJO, playing music from Duke Ellington’s ’Such Sweet Thunder’, alongside Birmingham Royal Ballet.
During his final year in Birmingham he received funding to record an EP or original compositions with a specially assembled quartet consisting of Ben Lee, Percy Pursglove and Andrew Bain. The funding allowed him to record at Wincraft Studio’s and can be found on the ‘Music’ page.
He is grateful to the Countess of Munster Musical Trust for their ongoing support during his studies.
