DOUBLE BILL

CATRIN FINCH & SECKOU KEITA (Cymru/Senegal)

Award winning duo Catrin Finch and Seckou Keita join forces to celebrate the remarkable affinities between the Welsh harp and the West African kora. Their sublime music creates a unique soundscape; Mandinka rhythms mix effortlessly with Welsh tunes, with hypnotic improvisations from both in an exhilarating and playful set which leaps over cultural barriers, roaming freely in borderless musical territory. Multiple award–winners, Catrin and Seckou’s new album SOAR released in April 2018 to huge critical acclaim and 5* reviews for their live shows from the Guardian and London Evening Standard, leading Songlines Magazine’s Tim Cumming to describe them as ‘the most popular world music act of the decade’.

“an emotional demonstration of how two virtuoso musicians triumphantly bring different cultures together” 5* ROBIN DENSELOW, THE GUARDIAN

BASSEKOU KOUYATE & NGONI BA (Mali)

Bassekou Kouyate is one of the true masters of the ngoni, an ancient traditional lute found throughout West Africa, and is respected as one of Africa’s premier global artists. His band, Ngoni Ba, includes three ngoni players (featuring ngonis with differing tonal sizes), two percussionists and the fantastic singer Amy Sacko. Together they have revolutionised the sound of the ngoni, and radically fired centuries of griot tradition into the future. Bassekou has collaborated with the likes of Ali Farka Toure, Toumani Diabate and Taj Mahal, and joined Seckou Keita on the Africa Express tour in 2016 along with Damon Albarn and Paul Weller. Incredible dexterity and stunning music from one of Africa’s music visionaries.

“Defiant, angry new music from Mali, by the world’s greatest exponent of the ngoni, the ancient West African lute” THE GUARDIAN

This concert is one of twelve across the UK in 2019 specially selected by Songlines Magazine to celebrate their 20th anniversary.

ACT DDWBL DOUBLE BILL

CATRIN FINCH A SECKOU KEITA (Cymru/Senegal)

Mae’r deuawd clodfawr Catrin Finch a Seckou Keita yn ymuno i ddathlu’r berthynas hynod rhwng y delyn Gymreig a kora Gorllewin Affrica. Mae eu cerddoriaeth aruchel yn creu seinwedd unigryw; rhythmau Mandinka yn cymysgu’n ddidrafferth ag alawon Cymreig, gyda byrfyfyrio hypnotig gan y ddau mewn set fywiogol a chwareus sy’n neidio ar draws ffiniau diwylliannol, yn crwydro’n rhydd mewn tiriogaeth gerddorol heb ffiniau. Cafodd SOAR, albwm newydd Catrin a Seckou, enillwyr gwobrau niferus, ei ryddhau ym mis Ebrill 2018 gan ddenu clod mawr gan y beirniad ac adolygiadau 5* ar gyfer eu sioeau byw gan y Guardian a’r London Evening Standard, gan arwain Tim Cummings o Gylchgrawn Songlines i’w disgrifio fel ‘act gerddoriaeth byd mwyaf poblogaidd y degawd’.

BASSEKOU KOUYATE A NGONI BA (Mali)

Mae Bassekou Kouyate yn un o wir feistri'r ngoni, sef liwt draddodiadol hynafol i’w chanfod ar draws Gorllewin Affrica, a chaiff ei barchu fel un o artistiaid byd-eang blaenaf Affrica. Mae ei fand, Ngoni Ba, yn cynnwys tri chwaraewr ngoni (yn cynnwys ngonis â chanddynt meintiau cywair gwahanol), dau offerynnwr taro a’r gantores ryfeddol Amy Sacko. Gyda’i gilydd maen nhw wedi chwyldroi sain y ngoni, ganyrru canrifoedd o draddodiad griot i mewn i’r dyfodol. Mae Bassekou wedi cydweithio ag Ali Farka Toure, Toumani Diabate, Taj Mahal a’u tebyg, ac wedi ymuno â Seckou Keita ar daith African Express yn 2016 ynghyd â Damon Albarn a Paul Weller. Deheurwydd rhyfeddol a cherddoriaeth syfrdanol gan un o weledyddion cerddorol Affrica.

Mae’r cyngerdd hwn yn un o ddeuddeg ar draws y DU yn 2019 sydd wedi eu dewis yn arbennig gan Gylchgrawn Songlines i ddathlu ei ben-blwydd yn 20 mlwydd oed.
