Some of Cardiff's finest musicians reimagine the work of Clifford Brown and Max Roach for the 21st Century.
Trumpeter Clifford Brown & drummer Max Roach formed a world changing quintet in 1954 described by The New York Times as "perhaps the definitive bop group until Mr. Brown's fatal automobile accident in 1956."
The album of the same name includes tracks such as Delilah, Parisian Thoroughfare, Daahoud, Joy Spring, Jordu, The Blues Walk and What Am I Here For.
Study in Brown (1955) is another classic bebop album including the songs Lands End and Sandu which have gone on to become jazz standards.
The quintets influence continues to be felt by many musicians including Roy Hargrove, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Arturo Sandoval, Wynton Marsalis, Tony Williams, Bill Stewart and Jeff Watts.
The quartet will explore the rich heritage of the original forms and styling's and use them as a basis for a re-imagining of these tunes.
Contemporary arrangements and sounds bring a hard modern edge to the music to update the 1950's sound to the 2000's and beyond.
