Hackensack Sessions

Now you have discovered your role in our quest for the fresh and new, you will have realised this is only the beginning. With so much unknown at this stage on our journey it is hard to say what the future holds for us, but it looks bright! It looks more than bright, it shines ahead of us. It flashes before our very eyes, just out of reach but with crystal clarity. It looks back at us through the giggling helix of time with insatiable hope and wonder, beckoning us forward to next months musical treasures. Remember that, due to special relativity, time is warping as we speed along and months may seems like years, but hang in there; we are backensackenhackensack on the 6th December at 9pm with...

1st set Blanchfield/McIntosh Duo

Michael Blanchfield piano
Frazer McIntosh

After having made their first public appearance together in February this year, these two pianists have joined forces once more to round off Hackensack's 2018 with another intimate duo performance. This is the culmination of their two indefinably different approaches, voices, backgrounds, personalities and senses of humour, woven together in a unique open conversation of sound

2nd set Future Histories

Rebecca Nash is a bright light amongst the jazz musicians of her generation who brings a distinctive sound to the stage. Equally at home playing contemporary original music, as well as standard repertoire, and more freer material, Rebecca’s latest project Atlas is due to release its debut album on Stoney Lane Records early 2019. She is particularly happy to be back performing in Cardiff where she studied at RWCMD.

Trumpeter Nick Malcolm is an original, heart-felt improviser. His rich, warm sound and sense of daring improvisational inform each and every musical situation and he plays with a total commitment to the music in the moment, whatever the stylistic context.

Will Harris’ dynamic and comprehensive approach to the double bass has put him in high demand as a musician on the UK jazz scene. Currently touring with a bunch of exciting projects, including the award winning Jonny Mansfield’s Elftet, and the Matt Anderson Quartet, Will has worked with some of the UK’s most renowned jazz performers including Dave Newton, and Karen Street, not to mention touring with the legendary Chris Potter.

These three musicians have come together for the Hackensack sessions to present an evening of their favourite standard repertoire.
