Self-described as ‘weirdo pop’, Welsh band MADI will be performing electronically-tinged art-pop sound in an immersive theatre experience.
The band were born earlier this year as a result of experimentation with production and electronic songwriting, and in-depth work with producer Charlie Francis (REM, Future of the Left, Sweet Baboo), after several successful years playing as Maddie Jones.
But the performance at Clwb will be more than music, its an immersive theatre experience. MADI believes in being more than just a band. Inspired by the relationship between colour and music, MADI directs videos, designs artwork, and builds sets. Inspired by the magical otherness of ideas like Boomtown and Burning Man, MADI wants to incorporate visual, immersive elements into the show. The audience will be part of it, not just observers. This event is part of MADI’s development of these ideas, collaborating with projection and lighting design, dance, circus, theatre and costume.
MADI’s sound has been compared to that of St Vincent, Kimbra, and Goldfrapp.
“Cosmic electronica, intergalactic funk and a synth possibly half-inched from Eno’s lock-up”
David Owens, WalesOnline
“Oh wow, it’s a brilliant new direction, taking her music to another level, we love it… huge respect for MADI and her music.” Bethan Elfyn, BBC Introducing.
