WE are Leif
A chance meeting on a gig of vocalist Louise Victoria and drummer Mark Whitlam led to a conversation about the frustration of wanting to stretch out musically in a different direction. This direction was looking towards New York's contemporary scene of groove-based, jazz-infused musical scene - sharing influences from the likes of Gretchen Parlato, Becca Stevens, Esperanza Spalding and Taylor Eigsti, yet not forgetting references closer to home, such as Massive Attack and Lamb.
From there, Louise and Mark began writing together and assembled the band with one of Mark's long-time collaborators, Dale Hambridge on keyboards and piano, completed by Chris Jones who recently moved to Bristol and has made waves on the scene with his bass playing.
All four musicians are established jazz musicians, so improvisation within the song form is never far away. Between them, they span a wide musical landscape, having worked with the likes of ECM artists Andy Sheppard and Iain Ballamy, Joss Stone, Beverley Knight, Jason Rebello, Raurri Jones, Clare Teal and Type Sun.
* We would like to keep this event free for everyone to enjoy, but would also like support the musicians that play for us. What we ask of you is to give generously to the bucket if you've enjoyed it. Every penny goes to the artists and the bigger the bucket the more likely they'll come and play again. *
